Historically marijuana or cannabis has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. Between 1840 and 1900, Europeans and American medical journals published more than 100 articles on its therapeutic uses. It has only been in the past 60 years that it has been illegal. In recent years the subject of legalizing marijuana for the use of medical purposes has been one of great controversy. Both opponents and proponents have strong convictions on the subject.
