Personally I think Hawaii is a paradise but it is not a racial utopia, which it is sometimes portrayed as. It has its own brand of racism that isn't far from the same racism experienced in the south that pitted whites versus blacks. I am not saying that racism here has to do strictly with color of skin as it does there. Racism here has to do with locals who feel that people from the mainland should stay on the mainland.
             For the most part the Hawaiian people are friendly but there are the few who still are sore with the white people for coming and stealing their land from underneath them. I completely understand there reasoning but they need to put themselves in the shoes of people who they are discriminating against. The only racial violence I know of is between Samoans and blacks at school. I never understand why they continue to fight, maybe it is partially racial or they just have to prove to the other who is the baddest in the area. I personally will never know how it feels to be a true local because I was raised in an environment that was completely different. The backgrounds we both come from are very different. Facts on the colonization of Hawaii will always differ in our perspectives because everything I have learned has been taught to me through use of a history book where as it is their heritage. These differences I think may lead to the lack of tolerance over how the United States acquired Hawaii. Discrimination can never be justified because not liking a culture due to color of their skin or what they may believe in is just wrong. People should just stop and think how would they like it if they went to the mainland and people were rude and treated them with discrimination.
