After graduating college in May of 1996, I immediately went to work for a company in Manchester NH selling and designing industrial size rooftop fans. On the first day of work I was given my own desk and cubical, which was a real rush for me just being out of college one week. The entire first week I worked very closely with my supervisor who was giving me a crash course on inside sales. After the first week I was on my own to sell and promote the company's products.
             After about a month had passed, I was given the job of handling the submittal purchase requisitions and orders for pricing to company accounts. The way these submittal purchase requisitions worked was - the customer submitted to us what fans and accessories he wanted with his order. I then sent in a fax to the fan manufacturer to get pricing on the order. Once the pricing came back, I would add a multiplier to the total cost of the order, which was my company's profit on the order. Then I would submit the pricing to the customer by fax. If the customer liked the pricing, he would send a numbered purchase order to us on the submitted pricing. At this point I was thinking this job was a piece of cake and I was happy to get a real paycheck each week.
             Once I was with the company for about three months, an additional step was added to the process for me. When the purchase order was received from the customer to purchase the equipment at the quoted price - I would be required to sign-off that the price given was the lowest available price. The additional step given to me involved - my boss was having me go back to the fan manufacturer and seek a better price on the original order. My boss informed me that this second quote was not to be passed on to the customer - I was to put the pricing through to the customer account at the higher quoted price.
