             Saroyan shows in Mama I Love You the troubles that Twink's family is having and how torn apart her mother gets over small things. Once in New York, Mama Girl tried out for a part only to find out that Twink got another part and she only would get the part because of Twink. She wants to be the main actor, but she knows she cannot and it devastates her. Mama Girl and Twink fight about it, and then they talk about how nice it will be after all. Although Twink sees the world through the eyes of a child, she also thinks in the realm of adulthood and helps counsel Mama Girl.
             Twink misses her dad and sometimes cannot comprehend why her father, whom she commonly refers to as "Papa Boy", had to divorce Mama Girl, take her brother Pete, and move to Paris. Twink has dreams about how life used to be in her family's home in California. She constantly thinks back to how she "would wake up from her bed and run into Mama Girl and Papa Boy's room so they could hold [her] and talk&
