Thinking that self-esteem of the students not in the "in" crowd will suffer even more due to fact that they will feel like failures when the uniforms are supposed to bring the children together (Caruso 88).
Many who oppose school uniform policies do not believe that gang activity is the result of the clothing the gang members wear. The opposition thinks gang problems are a result of different "factors that include home life, parental influence, substance/physical abuse, family values, and cultural tradition" (Caruso 87). They feel gangs will find other ways to distinguish themselves from the other students, with such thing like "graffiti, hand signs, and accessories" (87).
