             Women started to organise themselves and make specific demands. They began to create women's movements to try to make their voices heard and reclaim their identity. They were in charges of many protests and also played a key role in the overthrow of the Duvalierist State and the first democratic election in Haiti. They also fought to gain the right for higher education and better jobs. Women were looking for ways to improve their lives. Both, rural and urban women were finding ways to reclaim their identity and better their conditions. They wanted to redefine their space.
