Huckleberry Finn's Real Adventure.
             As we all know, Huckleberry Finn is a novel about the adventure one boy had in order to free a slave. Huck was a boy of thirteen and he lived everyday for adventure and excitement. When he set off for his adventure with Jim, a slave in search of freedom, he set off on the journey we all take through life. Huck was skeptical of the world and didn't know who to trust and what to believe. He knew what he was supposed to believe but was unsure why. His trip down the "river of life" helped him realize his own views and morality while forming his identity.
             Throughout Huck's life he has been taught many ideas he is supposed to believe. As far as he knows, he must follow these rules so as to avoid going to hell. It is this blind faith that Huck has trouble buying. He follows these rules out of guilt or fear more than a sincere belief in them. Huck is taught how to pray yet he does not see the results from prayer. He is taught not to steal or lie, and black people are property and not people.
             He questions these ideas and values yet cannot decide how he really feels about them. He does not want to disappoint the Widow Douglas but he feels he needs to find his own answers.
             As Huck and Jim take off on their adventure, Huck is faced with situations that compromise what he has been taught. When he encounters the slave hunters, Huck finds it acceptable to lie sometimes when he was originally told never to do so. A major issue Huck has to overcome is the fact that he is helping to free a slave. He struggles with this throughout the book and comes to realize that Jim is a person, just like any other, who wants to be with his family. Huck makes these decisions on his own and in turn develops his own morality. He refuses to go along with what he has been taught and searches for his own answers.
