each other within a society. One show in particular, called Sex and the City, contains a large amount of adult issues that pertains to women, sex, and relationships. The show's leading ladies are four thirty-something New Yorkers who explore the inner twists and turns of sex and relationships through the use of drama and comedy. Sex and the City has become a television ritual for millions of Americans in that the show contains highly provocative and mature concepts and keeps its audience always wanting to come back for more. A show that has obviously caught the attention of so many in such a short time must have something to say about our society and in particular the women in it. Although many may criticize the show as being too vulgar for audiences, Sex and the City does have many positive things to say about the sexual revolution on television as well as the potential for women in our society to do and become what ever they wish to.
             Television in its early days had very little to say about the social issues of the world. (advocatesforyouth, 1) With the idea of using television as a primary way of reaching Americans, writers began to test audiences by putting in slightly controversial and mature concepts into their shows. Women's studies professor, Nancy Worcester explains that TV went from showing couples who slept in separate twin beds (I Love Lucy) to showing a very sexually active environment between partners. Dating back to 1970-77 when The Mary Tyler Moore Show was still aired, Americans could see how television was changing in a more liberal way.
