1936. Hitler knew that due to the French and the British's policy of appeasement that nobody
would get in his way. Next Hitler took Czechoslovakia and began moving in to Poland. He
needed the aid of another dictator. In 1939 Hitler and Stalin signed the Nazi-Soviet Pact which
allowed Germany to invade Poland. On September 1st, 1939, the Germans moved into Poland.

forcing them to surrender. A French puppet government was set up at Vichy while the Germans
Britain was forced to fight the Axis alone. In the Battle of Britain, the Royal Air Force
fought and successfully held off German aircraft, preventing an invasion by Hitler. The constant
attacks left the British in dire need of help. They got it in March of 1941 when the Lend-Lease
Act was passed and President Roosevelt was given the power to aid the British in any way
Hitler turned his back on the Soviets and invaded them. The Germans would attack the
city of Stalingrad and killed over 40,000 civilians in the process. In the long run the Soviets
The Italians tried to take control of the Mediterranean but were held off by Bernard
Montgomery at the Battle of El Alamein. This was the Allies first big victory.
