In the Arthur Miller's play The Crucible there are two many kinds of characters dynamic and static complex characters. The dynamic character in the play is Reverend Hale. The main static complex character is Abigail Williams.
             Reverend Hale is a dynamic character because of the major changes he goes through during the play. He changes from hunting and trying to get rid of the witchcraft in Salem, to realizing that witchcraft is fake and trying to save the accused. His change occurs when John Proctor is accused of being a wizard and sending his spirit on Marry Warren. He changes at this time because he knows the John Proctor is a good man and is not a wizard. So at this time he realizes that the whole thing is ridiculous and quits the court. Before he quits the courts he says to judge Danforth "Excellency, this child has gone wild." He says that directed to Marry Warrens accusing Jon Proctor as a witch. He comes back to Salem later to try to save the people accused in Salem by getting them to confess so they will not be hung. Those are the major changes that Reverend Hale went throughout making him a dynamic character.
             Abigail Williams is one of the plays static complex characters. Even though she is a static character her actions do change. But they only change to help her get what she wants. So her actions might change but really her character does not. During the play all Abigail does is try to make her self-happy no matter if its wrong or whom it hurts. An example of this is how she accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch so she could have a chance with John Proctor.
             The major difference between static complex character and dynamic character is that a complex character might seem to change but really never does where as a dynamic character does change.
