America is a place where people come to experience freedom of expression. People come from all over the world, creating an assortment of ideas and beliefs. Consequently, there are differing opinions about the issue of sanctioning gay marriage. Many people have misconceptions about gays and therefore oppose the legalization of same-sex marriage.
             Many find homosexuality to be immoral. Those who are from a religious background bombard society with accusations of how homosexuality is wrong and immoral. The foundation of American was based on freedom from forced religion. Such religions have no right to tell others what they believe is wrong and they should not participate in such behavior. If one believes in religious freedom, one cannot argue for the ban of gay marriage.
             The belief that homosexuality is all about sex is incorrect. Just as in heterosexual couples, the gay population, especially within the younger group, has a minority where such relationships exist. As people grow older, they become more mature and realize it is not smart to be promiscuous and begin to appreciate long-term committed relationships. Gays are loyal, monogamous, devoted partners and are committed to making their neighborhoods and communities safer and better places to live. Legalizing of homosexual marriage gives greater motivation to remain monogamous and slows the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
             This lifestyle being socially unacceptable creates a stigma on the homosexuals, and those who are uninformed, follow the traditional way. There are those who believe marriage should only be one man and one woman and changing the laws on marriage? If because of tradition, traditionally it was acceptable to own slaves but by the nineteenth century, humankind realized the evils of that institution.
