In this paper, I will explore the adolescent search for self-esteem and the role teachers play
during this search. As a future instructor, this interests me very much; anything I, as an educator
and mentor, can do to promote positive self-image, and positive self-esteem will work towards
the adolescent's establishing a positive self-identity for the entirety of their life.
One of the most troubling aspects of adolescence is that now, as life is growing more complex,
adolescents are increasingly cut off from the activities of their elders, leaving most young people
with school as their only social outlet. Inexorably, this has isolated many of them from the adult
world they are reaching for and prolonged their childhood. Almost the whole world over, the
adolescent years have become marked by violence to an alarming degree; violence against peers,
