The question of Genie proving the theory that language must be learned by a certain age or risk being incapable of human communication for ever is very complex. In my opinion there would be several different methods of interpreting the "Genie" story. There seems to be many factors that could have affected Genies ability to learn. Perhaps maybe the abuse she suffered as indicated could have also been a major factor of her delays in some areas of communication. It seems also that it takes abut five years or more for a child to fully develop communication skills and it would be difficult to make up for such as long amount of lost time.
It would also in my opinion be difficult to conduct a proper scientific research study and produce a scientific conclusion with studying close to only one subject matter. Could she have been further developed with a proper nutrition in the early stages? In conclusion there are far too many unanswered possibilities about this story. There is also no other comparison studies made and will obviously never be made as it would be unthinkable to lock up or put a child in severe isolation on purpose. There have I believe certainly been some interesting conclusions made in the study of Genie i.e.- she was very good at right sided brain activity but the left side of her brain responsible for language ability showed test results similar to those of children who have had there left brain removed . Again scientifically there has just been too little or almost no data to draw a proper conclusion about the Genie story.
