To kill a mocking bird is a book written by Harper Lee. This book is so good that it became a best seller. It also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. This book was such a hit it later became a movie and won an academy award.
             This story takes place in a small town in Alabama where three kids, Jem, Scout, and Dill dare to face their fears and a lawyer faces the public. The kids were curious about their neighbor, Boo, who they heard so much bad stuff about. One time they wondered off to see what he looks like. The kids almost got caught. They got scared and ran home. Summer vacation over and Dill had to return to his home until next summer. Jem and Scout had to go back to school.
             During school Scout was constantly fighting because the other kids were talking bad about her father, Atticus. Atticus, who was a lawyer, had to defend a black man, Tom. Tom was accused of raping a white woman. The whole town disliked that and disrespected Atticus. He honestly did not care about the color of the skin and he was the only one who believed that the colored guy was not guilty. Atticus proved it too. The Jury still stated that the colored man was guilty just because the jury didn't like him. He later on was escorted back to his jail cell, but on his way he tried to run and got shot and killed.
             One October night Scout had a school play. Jem volunteered to escort Scout to the school play. Scout lost her cloths and her shoes so she had to wear the ham costume home. As they were walking through the woods Jem heard some footsteps following them. It was Bob Ewell. He tried to hurt the children and that's when the scary neighbor Boo came to help the them. Boo had killed Bob Ewell with a knife then he carried the injured Jem home. That's when the sheriff and Atticus discovered that it was Boo who helped the kids to safety.
