             Within the book and volume of my brain Response: After the death of Hamlet's father, there is a constant mental battle in his head about how to proceed with his life. After the vision of his father, telling him to avenge his death, Hamlet is at a dilemma about what is right, because his logic tells him that he should observe the commandment set down by god "though shall not murder" but his passion pushes him to murder his uncle because he wants to do as his father instructed. Also I am sure that if someone killed your father intentionally you would also be pretty mad.
             Human instinct tells that we should go by our gut feel however the ramifications of your actions must also be considered. Human nature tells us to follow our instincts but since we have evolved we have also become aware of the so-called places that we go to after death, Heaven and hell. Hamlet is very aware of both these places and is quite a religious man so he is basically scared of what will happen if he carries out the murder of his uncle. However at the same time he is fighting the temptation of actually killing him. There is a constant stand off between reason and passion both with equally strong driving forces but in the end one will prevail.
             At the early stages of the play hamlet is unaware of whether or not his uncle is the real murderer, but as the play progresses he systematically goes about finding out the facts which will lead to his conviction. However at several stages of the play, he will give in to his passion and kill erratically, and as a result he kills Polonius thinking that it is his uncle/step father.
