Since video games award points for being violent, they teach children that violence is necessary to win (Children and the media). With new advancements in technology, the amount of sexuality, violence, and advertisements in the mass media is increasing, and children are consequently changing their behavioral habits.
             The media is full of extreme violence, and more children are becoming intensely aggressive because of it. On average, children see twelve thousand acts of violence on television annually (Children and the meida). These acts of violence include murder, rape, and even suicide (Liebert and Sprafklin, 10). Even though television programs provide rating systems, most parents ignore them. Sixty eight percent of parents of children between ages ten and seventeen said they do not use the television-rating systems (Kids affected by media violence). Also, only ten percent of parents check the ratings of computer and video games (Kids affected by media violence). Children's shows are known to contain the highest proportion of violence, and almost every animated feature in the United States has portrayed some sort of violent behavior (Kids affected by media violence). Researchers are currently in the process of creating a new, simplified rating system to help parents regulate their children's exposure to violent media (Kids affected by media violence).
             In addition, children are exposed to a large amount of sexual acts in the media. On average, teenagers view more than fourteen thousand sexual references annually on television (Children and the media). Children see acts of sex on television that portray sex as normal and risk free because "everybody does it (Children and the media)."
