Being a nontraditional student is not as hard as some might think. Sure we have a
lot going on in our lives outside of school, but all the other students have lives other than
student life too. With proper guidance and resources offered on campus you can be an A-
When I first thought of entering college I was blessed to have my best friend help
me. She was the one who helped me to overcome the fears I was going through the
wobbling knees, the sweaty palms, and the knots in my stomach. She showed me how
to take care of the financial aid, and were I could set up my classes through First Year
Experience counselors/ advisors. I was so great full to have her and the FYE.
The one way to assure success as a nontraditional student is to use good time
management. To do this you must make out a planned schedule for class times, house
hold chores, family needs, time to take of or for your self , and most importantly time for
studying. Now that this is set up you will need to follow it as close as possible. There
will be times you have to alter to unforeseen needs or happenings. Just don't get

The Friends lab is for nontraditional students, it allows us to have a place to relax like
home and just study or even rest for classes. The other study centers are staffed with
peers of whom have mastered some of the classes undergraduates might take. Therefore,
you can to the pep lab and receive help in arithmetic. Then there is the csc lab that helps
with grammar classes. There are also First Year Experience mentors; for guidance and
