The Real Jesus

             Due to the fact that there are only small amounts of historical evidence about the life of Jesus and what he taught, no one really is for certain who the real Jesus of Nazareth is. The four canonical Gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John, are four separate accounts of Jesus' life presented in the Bible. Few other accounts have been made of Jesus' life and it is argued by many who this man truly was. Thomas Jefferson did write what he believed to be the most genuine account of who Jesus really was. Jefferson's work was derived from certain parts out of the Gospels and is called The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth Extracted Textually from the Gospels in Greek, Latin, French and English and is often referred to as the "Jefferson Bible," which I believe is the most accurate account of who Jesus really was.
             Most likely the early Christians tainted the original teachings and stories of Jesus with philosophy from ancient Greeks in order to make their religion seem more alluring to non-believers (Mellowes). Because of this manipulation, the true account of Jesus' life is difficult to perceive.
             According to Mellowes, Jefferson obtained what he believed to be the actual messages that Jesus was trying to convey from the Gospels. Jefferson basically went through all four Gospels and took out the parts he thought was not directly taking from Jesus himself and used the parts he believed to be authentic.
             The Jesus that Jefferson had discovered was far different to the Jesus that Christians worship and follow. In Jefferson's work there is no story of a virgin birth, angels or the resurrection. Jefferson's account was about a man who was a "great Teacher of Common Sense."
