Loss

             My fiancés pet, Chelsea, just pasted on last night and I was not prepared for the feelings that I experienced afterwards. I did not realize the amount of feelings that she had for the cat. I feel that death in society is very taboo. No one generally talks about it. You really do not learn about it in school. Furthermore, it is generally not a discussion at the dinner table! I think that after death, loved ones have such a hard time because they are so unprepared. I am feeling more sympathy towards her than I imagined. It is true that you really do not know what something means to you until it is gone.
             We did not seem to really notice the problem until two days before she died. When Molly came home Friday after work, she noticed that the cat was having a very difficult time breathing. She immediately called the veterinarian; unfortunately, the office was closed. Saturday morning Molly called to try to set up an appointment and she explained that Chelsea was having labored breathing but they were unable to fit in an appointment to have the cat seen.
             Sunday when I returned home from work I saw somewhat of a "terror" in Molly's eyes. She didn't say anything except for, "Follow me." Molly led me to the back bath room where Chelsea laid there still and lifeless. I thought that she was dead but she was not. Molly was constantly fighting back the tears from her eyes and said, "I need your help." She needed me to find out where a twenty four hour pet hospital was located.
             I never really had pets myself and had no clue where any veterinarians were at much less a twenty-four hour pet hospital so I felt extremely unprepared for this challenge.
