The squeaking of sneakers on the freshly waxed gym floor filled the air. Cheers from the crowd seem distant as I focused on the orange and black sphere floating from player to player. Muscles in my legs are on fire from the running as I stand in my defensive position. The tall lanky girl raises the ball above her head and leaves her hands like rock from a catapult. It slams the glass backboard; my teammate leaps into the air to snatch it. She passes the ball to me and I slowly walk it up the court to slow the pace of the hectic game.
             I turn to the bench to look at my coach for the play. Looking across the court it's total chaos. Through lack of communication two players ran one play while my self and two others ran a different one. Our opponents sense the confusion like a pack of dogs they can smell our fear. The defensive pressure smothers me like a blanket. A white jersey appears to my rescue so I pass the basketball with all my strength. The crimson jersey of the other team pounce on the ball like a tiger on it prey. She begins the fast break down the side of the court. With a burst of energy I am able get ahead of her, in mid-run I switch to back peddling down the court. Keeping my eye on the ball, I see her bring up the ball in preparation for a lay-up. Planting my feet to jump I feel a tingle in my knee and in a split second I release my energy to jump. While airborne I feel the scorching rush of pain in my leg. Freefalling to the hard gym floor I grab my knee and lat flaccidly on the floor. The gym overcame with an eerie silence, I can hear my heart beating and the throbbing in my leg is like a drum. I hear people talking around me, but their voices sound muffled and distant. I can concentrate on nothing but the pain as they lift me off the ground and carry me away.
             I open my eyes to see rows of florescent lights above my head and beeping alarms everywhere.
