Through out the book Cold Sassy Tree, Miss Love Simpson (the new flame of Grandpa Blakeslee) was looked down upon by the town of Cold Sassy and resented by the entire family. Though through it all Miss Love stayed in Georgia, even after Grandpa died, to raise her son and finish out her life.
             She came into town with an open mind and a will to work. Coming from the North naturally made her prejudicially disliked by some of the townsfolk and it took Miss Love through nearly the whole book to respect the ideals and philosophy of the southern people.
             One of the reasons Miss Love decided to stay in Cold Sassy is that she had no where else to go. She said, "For one thing, where would I go and why would I leave the only family my son will ever have?" (pg. 390) She had left Texas, after getting out of her previous engagement, and came to Georgia to work in Grandpa's shop as a milliner. This was the life that she was used to, and there was no where else to go.
             Miss Love had said "...she thought she was going to have a baby but wasn't sure. After she was sure she decided to tell him on his birthday." (pg. 376) She had conceived the baby before he passed away, and carrying a baby she knew that she needed a place to live. She had inherited the house when Grandpa died (she actually got the house when she agreed to help care for Grandpa in the business 'marriage'), so, since she already had the house it made a lot of sense to stay right where she was and raise the child with the family.
             Finally, I believe, that the biggest reason Miss Love stayed in Cold Sassy was because of her child. She was pregnant and had no one to look after the baby. She needed help raising it and figured that the Grandpa's family would be good. "You're so much like Rucker! Knowing you, my son will know his father!" (pg 390) was said by Miss Love and showed that she knew
