When I was eight years old I learned a good lesson, a very hard way. It was painful but when I look back on it, it was funny. I was not paying attention to what was going on around me. I was just trying to stay warm.
It was very cold out. Therefore, I had on a big fluffy coat. It was about 7:30, we were going to an auction. There was no more parking in the lot so we parked on the street and walked. The wind was blowing so I pulled my arms in to my jacket and covered my face. I could only see the back of my moms head. I would do this anytime I could not get warm.
While we were walking my mom and dad were talking to each other. I was just walking and all of a sudden I tripped and fell on my face. Usually when you fall you reach out to catch yourself, but mine were in my jacket. I just started to cry.
Well I guess my parents weren't paying attention to me. I believe if they were they would of stopped and helped me up. They didn't realize that I fell to they got about three yards ahead of me. If it wasn't bad enough I could not get my arms out because I was crying so much. My mom says that I was rolling around like a chicken with its head cut off. Overtime they talk about it and all I can think about is "I have fallen and I can't get up."
From that moment on I have not pulled my arms into my shirt or jacket. I am always afraid I will trip and no one will help me up. They would just leave me to roll around on the ground. Therefore, the lesson that I have learned is to be conscious with what is going on in front of you.
