s. That's where sports come in, there are a few characteristics that can help kids avoid these negative outcomes. These assets are: general independence and self-confidence, positive peer influence, self-esteem, social skill, and a tolerance for stress. All of these skills are proven outcomes of sports on a child's life.
             My goal for this project is to show the positive affects that sports have on children at a young age. I also want to promote the importance of a young child's involvement in some form of sports or organized activity where they can compete and have fun with their peers.
             Kids at young ages are vulnerable to many temptations and pressures, especially in the ages from 6th grade to 10th where they are in transition. The kids that have the most troubles are the at-risk children. Experts say the two-thirds of these kids will falter in some way as they transition into high school. Experts believe that if children have something to be involved in such as sports there is a much, much lower chance of them falling by the wayside in these vulnerable years. Sports and athletic programs give kids a thing to do after school, other than, wandering the streets, hanging around businesses, and causing mischief. Athletics also give kids a reason to stay disciplined and keep their grades up in school, which for most kids is hard to have the discipline to do so without sports.
             There are many things that cause these kids to stumble: negative peer pressure, poor living conditions, and drugs. There are many other problems that these kids have with staying on track, but experts believe that there is no situation so bad that there can't be a solution. That's why there are so many various programs and community outreach centers that target specific kids and use numerous ways of reaching them.
