A world of change from a new freedom in America to an older style of life in Ireland. This is the situation Frank Mc Court is thrown into as a boy. In the story "Limerick Homecoming" he tells the story of a poverty stricken family and the trials they endure through. Mc Court uses three effective things in his writing to add feeling to his story. He tells the story from a Childs point of view; he doesn't use an adult's standpoint and the irony of the name "Limerick".
             Through the eyes of Frank Mc Court, the story of his family unfolds. This family is in poverty and living off their grandma. In the eyes of a child he only sees the happiness of being with his family. His view of the world is filled with the humor of life shared by him and his brothers. They laugh together about the way their grandmother talks. This view from a child's eyes gives the reader the perspective of the forgiveness in a child.
             This story would not have the same effect as told from the older Frank Mc Court. The adult side of humanity is not forgiving to mistakes, a child is. Frank's family was in shambles and his brother is dead. The adult side would pick everything that was done wrong, but the young side looks at the happiness shared in a flea infested bed. Adults do not cherish warm fires as kids do. Young Frank draws a picture of Limerick, Ireland through the eyes of a child.
             The lack of irony in the name of the town Limerick is the fact that the town is not anything like the name. The word limerick in literature is a funny story or riddle. Within the borders of Limerick a family has lost a child and is living in poverty. The world the Mc Court family knows is in a total confusing state. The family slowly falls a part in front of their eyes. Limerick, Ireland does not show much humor toward the Mc Courts.
