Marijuana

             Marijuana is a substance that has become very much a part of American culture. Nearly 65 million Americans have either used it occasionally or regularly. The use of marijuana hit America about thirty years ago and has been accepted by a large section of society ever since. The debate on whether this substance should be legalized or not remains a topic today. Marijuana should be legal because it can be used for medical use, puts too many people in jail, is not as dangerous as alcohol and cigarettes, and would lower the cost of marijuana so people wouldn't throw away money
             Marijuana is a good medicine for sick patients therefore it should be legalized. Most patients say marijuana helps them feel better. For example, patients use marijuana to fight symptoms caused by their sickness. This quote shows how it helps. "[Doctors and nurses] had all had patients who had used marijuana to fight nausea and who have reported good results"(Dudley 39). That is saying that marijuana is an effective way to help fight off bad symptoms. Marijuana is a good medicine to help get rid of bad feelings.
             Marijuana should be legal because it puts to many people in jail. People complain about paying taxes for supporting the people in jail. Jail space is getting small because of all of the drug offenders put in there. This quote shows how many people are in jail."[Expert David S. Broder] cites statistics that show state prisons hold 236,800 drug offenders" (Bennett 1). Way to many people in jail when people are doing a lot worse. Marijuana should be legal because it wastes the people of this country's money to support someone that did nothing wrong; when people are killing others everyday.
             Cigarettes and alcohol are more dangerous than marijuana, which are legal and should make marijuana legal. A lot of research has been done to prove it. Cigarettes are horrible for health and alcohol causes many bad things to happen. This...
