The Superstructure owns and the Base worked, the downsizing in manufacturing meant that more people were working in the service industry; in fact you can still see the influence of global capitalism in America, the ultimate capitalist state, today. The problem with that is that everyone is locked together in the Base, economically everyone is similar but in reality that is not the case.
