A Knights Tale is about a man, William, who pretends to be of noble blood so he can joust. William is a great jouster and wins all his matches; through his journey of being a jouster he shows many qualities of an epic hero. An epic hero is a person who shows a lot of dignity, bravery, and powers in battle. Sir William shows the many qualities of an epic hero most of which are bravery, determination, and courage.
             Sir William shows a great deal of bravery throughout the story. One of the main signs of bravery is: when this story took place, in the medieval times, jousting was a big sport and all the Knights participated to show the honor that they have. During the joust the jouster, just before he hit his target, would lift his head to protect his eyes from the splintering lance, this was something William did not do. He kept his eyes on the target at all times and this displayed a great deal of courage on William part and was acknowledged by the princess. Another example of courage is that on his last match he wears no armor at all not even a helmet, and the man he is going up against is very ruthless. William shows no discomposure and goes right ahead with the joust. He knows that he is brave and shows a great deal of it too.
             William also shows a good deal of determination during the movie. The most obvious observation of his determination is the he will do anything to "change the stars." This was a saying back in the medieval times and it meant that the way you were born is how you will live your life, if you were born a peasant you would not be able to rise in stature no matter what you did. This was something William was willing to try because he knew that he was better than most and he could do anything. One last example of his outstanding determination is that he wants to beat Count Adhemar no matter what it takes, he has embarrassed William and William will not stop jousting until he knocks Adhemar off his horse...
