Lord of the Flies-Cast Away

             In this essay I will be comparing the movie Cast Away with the previous book that we read, Lord of the Flies. There were several different themes that ran throughout the book. Some of them that I will cover in my essay are the struggles for leadership and power is often difficult. Humans are often lead by the fears, superstition, and prejudice of the unknown to commit or support actions or policies that are barbaric. Also, that evil is present as a destructive influence in man.
             The struggle with leadership and power is often difficult. Between Jack and Ralph, Ralph had leadership from the beginning because of the conch and Jack had a smaller part in leadership with the hunters. Jack always seemed to want more and more power and he seemed to go to any lengths to get more power. As time went by some of the boys that were under the leadership of Ralph left to go with Jack because he had meat. Near the end of the book almost all of the boys were following Jack. In the movie Cast Away, Chuck always wanted to be better than the next guy. He was always trying to get things done faster. He didn't really have a problem with struggling with leadership it was more or less gust power. He didn't want to let the customers down, by letting their packages be late or taking too long getting from one destination to another.
             Human beings are often led by superstition, prejudice, and fears of the unknown to commit or support actions or policies that are cruel or barbaric. The beastie was something that the Littluns had feared from the first night that they had crashed on the island. At first the beastie was just something imaginary, like a boogie man, then when the dead man from the plane and was caught on the cliff by his parachute they thought he was the beastie. Nearing the end of the book the fear of the beastie had gotten out of control because Simon was coming down off the mountain yelling the beastie and Piggy, Ralph, Jack
