             He enlisted as a flying cadet in the army. His father died shortly after and he threw his ashes to the wind as he had wanted. He was almost kicked out of the army for flying too well. There was one time when they were to fly a course leaving in 5 minute intervals. He was the third to take off but the first to land. On March 14, 1925 he graduated first in his class from the Advanced Flying School at Kelly Field and was commissioned as 2nd lieutenant in the Air Service Reserve Corps. From there he went to Missouri, giving people rides at Lambert Field and testing planes. He flew an aerial wedding carrying a judge alongside another plane with a bride and groom. He then joined the Mil-Hi Airways and Flying Circus in Denver. In 1925 he joined the 110th observation squadron of the 35th division air service pf the Missouri National Guard. Within weeks he was commissioned first lieutenant. On April 15, 1926 he started flying the mail from place to place.
             Raymond Orteig offered a prize of $25,000 for the first person to fly nonstop across the Atlantic from either New York to Paris or vice versa. Several aviators made an attempt but most of which died. Major Lambert and his brother pledges $2,000 for Lindbergh's plane.
