Society today has many problems. As many things may be responsible for this, we are definite television has a large role in the malfunctions of our society. This essay will provide evidence that television is bad for our society.
             Violence is one problem in today's society. Television programs and the movie industry promote and depict violence. Action heroes and even cartoon characters are idolised because of their violent behaviour. Children and adults imitate these violent characters and their conduct. The news usually consists of 70% bad news and 29% sport and weather and 1 % advertising. Every night something bad is guaranteed to happen: war, famine, murder, scandals, and other crimes. So people may conclude that attacking someone will lead to fame. Television is largely responsible for violence.
             The crime rate in Western Australia has steadily increased over the past few years. People have been mugged, bashed, robbed, assaulted, and murdered. Television the news, and movies promote this antisocial, brutal behaviour as interesting.
             The eye is what we use to see with. It is enticed by what it sees. Television nurtures our desire for material wealth and power. We see things that we want, food, mobile phones, cars, jewellery, and computer accessories on television. Advertising convinces us that we cannot live without this product. So we believe the advertisement, we want the product, but we can't afford it. So we steal. We commit a crime.
             Everyone and everything that we contact will affect our attitude and conduct. Television shows will change you even if you are unaware. While watching an extremely violent television show, killing somebody or even a whole city of people is okay. Our conscience becomes numbed to the violence and we accept murder, manslaughter, assault, and suicide as normal. So people use television as an excuse for their stupidity and misguided actions.
