Romeo And Juliet

             There have been many speculations about the cause of the tragic ending in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Some say it was a tragedy of character and some a tragedy of fate. Both of them play a big part in the development of the storyline. The two "star-crossed" lovers are faced with a dilemma because of their "rival" families. And it is no coincidence that events occur that lead to their deaths. Many facts come to prove that it really was a tragedy of character.
             Right at the beginning, in the prologue, it is learned that the families of Romeo and Juliet, the Capulets and the Montagues, have been in a vicious feud for a very long time. This immediately starts a connection between the two lovers. The families are extremely aggressive towards each other and are always causing trouble in Verona where they live. This comes to show that their encounter was not leaded by fate but because their families were always in conflict. If the Capulets and the Montagues had not been enemies then Romeo and Juliet's love for each other wouldn't have been a problem in the first place. If the families hadn't been in a feud, they probably wouldn't even have known each other. Because of this feud the lovers had to surpass obstacles due to it and it is what initiated the road to their death.
             Tybalt, one of the Capulets, is an extremely aggressive person. He often starts arguments and fights between the two sides. He usually does not know how to control himself therefore this leads to even more conflict. If Tybalt's hot-headed nature hadn't caused him to kill Mercutio then Romeo wouldn't have killed Tybalt, which wouldn't have caused him to be banished, which wouldn't have made things so complicated for Juliet's plan to work out.
