Maurice Jarre¡¯s ¡®Oxyge¾e¡¯, played during the opening credits and again later during a desert scene really adds a desired effect to the movie. The music varies a lot throughout the film producing ever changing acoustic environments. During the athletics carnival, in Perth, elegant music is played in order to highlight the fact that they are in an affluent area rather than the dirty, grubby outback. The two finest uses of music in the film where when the inexperienced soldiers where departing by boat to set out to Egypt for training and following the initial lines of assault which had failed miserably, leaving the remainder of the soldiers in despair. As the excited men embarked upon the warships to sail off to the East, in order to be given training and then trek off to Anzac cove, the audience was burdened with the sensation that these innocent men were struggling to cover up or elude the truth.
