             Placing his life in God's hands, he went to great lengths to become a priest and worked hard in his studies. In late in late April 1943 an uprising happened in Warsaw between the Polish Home Army against their Nazi oppressors, but it was put down in a few months and everyone who participated was slaughtered. The Germans went around the area of the capital rounding up all young men to avoid another incident. The bishop of Krakow, where Karol was studying religion, hid all the seminarians in his personal resident and passed them off as his servants. When Karol was ordained, he was sent to Rome to study theology, were he remained for many years.
