idn't' need to propose war or apply another tax on the people for such a purpose. It was not necessary to invade Mexico, and take more land than we already had in Texas. Wealth and power is what this war served, and many died for the wrong reasons. Selfishness played a big roll in the events of the Mexican war, and Thoreau took the yoke upon himself to express his opinion openly to the media and multitude of the people. Thoreau showed great courage during his time by speaking publicly in opposition of this war, and taking a stand against the injustice placed upon Mexico.
