Hunting is an important part of our heritage. Hunting is controversial to People, but it remains a means for people get their food. If there were no hunting then some people wouldn't have food. Poachers have turned hunting away from its original method into a sport, and they hunt for the hides or the trophy and leave the meat to waste. Farmers also use hunting to keep their harvest from being destroyed by letting hunters on their land to hunt. Hunting is an important need for food and wildlife control.              Hunting is a very old tradition passed down through the generations from father to son. The first hunters in the United States were the Indians. The Indians used a bow and arrow for a weapon and used animal pelts for camouflage. Indians had also used methods similar to the methods we use today. The pioneers used a gun called a musket when they hunted. A musket is a gun that uses black powder and round balls. To work it they would have to load the powder in the gun then put a lead ball in the barrel. Then put the flint on the hammer then its ready to fire. Using a rifle instead of a musket is a new safer way to hunt because the black powder in the musket could explode when your loading it and cause injury. Quite a Few hunters still use the bow and arrow because it is more challenging to the hunter.
             These methods are similar to those used generations ago. Most hunters today use a method of hunting called stand hunting. Stand hunting is one of the safest and most favored ways to hunt. It is even more safe because you don't have any people with you and therefore you don't have the possibility of an accidental shooting Stand hunting is performed when a hunter sits on a platform up in a tree and waiting for his quarry to pass.
