. Sir Kenelm Digby, presumably the next owner of the manuscript, left the book to the Bodleian library. The Digby Mary Magdalene is a gender-biased account of a woman who moves from woman of social standing to sinner and harlot, then devout servant and penitent and on to popular saint. Examining the text in three parts, sinner, pennant and saint, we can better understand the numerous story lines and messages of Christianity during Medieval times.
             The first part of the text we will examine contains the introduction to Mary the person and her fall from grace in lines 1 to 720 of Colewey's Early English Drama, An Anthology (Pg. 190-217). After the first few pages we know some facts about this character's home life. She has a brother, Lazarus, and a sister, Martha. She inherits Magdalene Castle after the death of her father, which would naturally leave her in a state of morning. It is understood that she lives a privileged lifestyle.
