Gordie is also quite loyal as well, as when Vern is taking forever to run along the train track, when the train is coming, instead of pushing past him, he encourages him to go faster so that he makes it. And when the train is just about to knock the both of them down, Gordie grabs Vern and pulls him off the track where they land on safe ground. Gordies' mother and father don't take much notice of him. Gordie thinks that it is because he doesn't play football like his brother, instead he likes to write. The only one in his family who ever gave him attention was his brother and he is now dead. He also feels the burden of being a poor substitute for him acutely. Gordie wishes he had a family who gave him attention and that his father would like him, as he cries about his dad in the film. This also shows him to be quite sensitive. His most memorable bit in the film was when he stood up to Ace with a gun.
