The smoke billowed out smothering my curiosity among questions of if I was doing alright. Time could have crawled to a stop that fuzzy summer day while the wind brushed up my sleeves. Crafting the perfect Barbeque was no walk in the park but I upheld the intense position. I propped open the BBQ lid again out of angst to doctor the chicken. Satisfied with the bubbling juices running down the tender meat I sighed and set my mental timer.
             Matched together in a puzzle I had a couple legs here, a couple thighs there, it was a true art. The demonic glowing chamber of coals was radiating out at my burnt tongs, who swayed over the grilled pieces of chicken in approval. I was defending my position on the BBQ throne at this sunset feast and had to put utmost care into this final stage of creation. The more I judged the less I socialized, ruining the spirit of why I was there. Somehow I had to pull myself away from the warmth. I sipped my raspberry lemonade in contempt of my work so far, questioning what decisive points I could be losing to my biggest critic there, myself.
             I endured further in my lawn chair with my beverage of choice, letting it whirl and twirl around my tongue slowly alleviating my conscious from the puffing BBQ. I made small talk with my little cousin telling him why he too must one day reign over a family BBQ. I flipped through my younger days, about how one way or another I had always thought up colossal hardships, caught over the open flame fighting the heat to get that tender chicken I treasured. The barbeque ninja isn't always at ease I boasted, but once mastered could do it blind folded, kind of, almost. It sure was a mental strain.
