Being a single mom in colllege is stressful. Making time for my son, studying and social life is a challenge. Charlie always demands my undivided attention. The other night, trying to finalize my speech, he continually asked, " Mommy will you play with me" or Can we go bowling?" I was getting frustrated, but I saw the frown on his face, and immediately felt torn. He was used to mommy being a stay-at-home mom and always going to the playground or taking him to McDonalds for hours. After looking at his face, I put aside my speech to take him bowling. We had a lot of fun, but I kept thinking, "I should be completing my speech for tomorrow." Because my son and I went out, the speech was not prepared. The next day, I was experiencing a lot of anxiety. My heart was pounding. My palms were sweating. I had a lump in my throat and I almost has a panick attack. However, I did survive the speech, but my homework has only increased. Because, I have more homework, my social life has decreased. For example, my friend asked me to join a weekly Bonko group. Usually I would enjoy doing something like that, but as I looked down at the three chapters of notes I had to study, I was forced to decline. When I hung up the phone, I realized that making a future for myself is stressful, but the stress is only temporary.
