According to the church document Pornography and Violence in the Communications Media: A Pastoral Response, pornography is the following:
             Pornography in the media is understood as a violation, through the use of audio-visual techniques, of the right to privacy of the human body in its male or female nature, a violation which reduces the human person and human body to an anonymous object of misuse for the purpose of gratifying lustful desires.
             In accordance to the dictionary, pornography is defined as "obscene literature, art, or photography, especially that having little or no artistic merit." On it's most basic level, pornography can be defined as any media that, in essence, aims to take away a person's human dignity.
             Natural law corresponds to three basic human drives and needs. These are preserving life, developing as individuals and communities, and sharing life with others. Natural law represents human dignity and is the foundation of human rights. This means that pornography goes against natural law. Natural law preserves human dignity; pornography tries to treat people like things, therefore being a negative influence on human dignity.
             Like natural law, the Ten Commandments deal with what the demands of love require, and what is prohibited when it comes to love. Under the Fourth Commandment, which deals with the responsibilities and duties to protect and uphold families, we are given the right to protection from destructive pornography. Pornography is a negative influence on the values of respect, honor, obedience, gratitude, and affection. These values are the basis of a family in society. All ten of the Commandments are united together, meaning to break one is to break them all. Therefore, when pornography goes against the Fourth Commandment, it goes against the Decalogue.
