Communication is an essential part of every living creature's life. Without it there
would be nothing, merely existence. Although there are various types of communication,
only one dominates-- written communication. Written communication is a way for people
to pass on information, or messages, to others through the use of symbols, numbers, an
words. Communicating through writing is the most effective form, and also the form that
can be used by just about everyone. Although it has been said, "that many definitions
civil, political, and social (and some scientific) arenas are constantly 'under construction,'
reargued and reshaped whenever they prove inaccurate or inadequate for the
times,"(Lunsford et al 111), this is not true for written communication. It will endure until
We have seen the various types of communication used throughout history. When
people speak to each other or make sounds, they are verbally communicating, as did the
cavemen with their grunts and groans. Someone who is deaf would not be able to use
verbal communication. Another more modern method of communication is the sending of
messages through Morse code to relay information from one person to another. A person
who doesn't know Morse code, however, can't use it to communicate. Sign language, the
use of hand signals, is yet another form of communication used by people with certain
disabilities. Anyone who is blind isn't going to be able to use sign or body language.
These are all forms of conveying information and messages to one another, yet not even
one of them can be utilized by every single individual in spite of a physical handicap or
