Gun Control

             The Second Amendment of the United States informs us that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The issue of whether or not gun control should exist is absurd because it is clearly stated in the Bill of Rights that gun control goes strictly against the Constitution. The policies that gun control promotes invade ones natural right to protect themselves, while the underlying fact that gun control will not solve America's crime problem still remains.
             One of the main debates currently over gun control is whether or not the Constitution allows it. Proponents take the stance that the second amendment was meant only for militia purposes, and is not applicable to today's society. Opponents, however, say that the amendment was put in place to protect the people from the government, essentially, because if there are no firearms available to the public, citizens would have no defense against a potential dictator, and there would be nothing to stop the government from doing whatever it wanted to. To some, this theory seems rather far-fetched, but, history has provided countless examples of such occurrences. Luckily, almost all were overcome by the people's ability to revolt.
             The government in our society has acquired many responsibilities it was not originally meant to have. Nowhere does the constitution give it power to regulate the distribution and use of
             firearms. Hopefully this revelation introduces itself to the populace in the near future, or the free nation of America is doomed to transform into a land where everything is government regulated,
             and individual freedoms are gradually taken away. The founding fathers had put the government in place to maintain an army, regulate trade, and declare war. Any powers not specifically bestowed upon it, the government doesn't have.
