I believe that the empty self refers to the lack of Spiritual growth in the lives of today's Christians . The absence of this maturity leaves Christians stranded without the proper tools to influence and impact their world and culture for Jesus Christ. The empty self has four main characteristics of the empty self. Individualism: thinking about oneself without considering their role in the world around them. Self-centeredness: thinking only of oneself and forgetting everybody else. Infantile ness: being completely centered around how you look and feel. Passiveness: having to be entertained, not being creative.
             In the Bible we as Christians are taught to bring honor above all to God. In all aspects of our life. Whether it be with an attitude in a soccer game or when you tithe in church, it all should be for the glory of God, not yourself. Individualism, self-centeredness, infant ness, and passiveness only serve for one purpose, to glorify oneself, and by bringing praise to oneself, how is a Christian going to show an accurate representation of who their God is. If they continue to exhibit actions such as self-centeredness and individualism they can't. It is impossible for a person to boast their God with words but through all actions lift up their own desires and wants.
             In today's culture the lifting of oneself is encouraged. It is encouraged through the media and every other aspect of the world in which we live. Lift yourself up and you will doing society a favor they say. Buy this and be happy, someone else proclaims. All you need is this and your life will have meaning, says someone else. When Christians fall into this line of thinking they are not only hurting themselves, but society as well. The Bible says that Christians are to be like salt in the world, preserving it, not helping it decay into oblivion faster. We should show the world that there is hope, but not in the new style o
