             Not only is Lady Macbeth devilishly intelligent, she is also a wonderful actress. She is always at Macbeth's side to guide him; she detracts attention from his killing of the guards by feigning a fainting spell. Like her husband, she is a strong believer in the dark side of the spiritual world. She beckons the spirits to "[come]...and fill [her] from the crown to the toe top-full/ Of direst cruelty" (1.5.47-49). Unabashedly, she asks for them to "[stop] up the access and passage to remorse" (1.5.50). One would think that the Lady is wholly evil, except that she states she could not kill Duncan because he looked like her father (2.2.16-17). This is interesting because it is the only instance in the play where Lady Macbeth is unable to carry through
