             To Kill A Mocking Bird demonstrates why one should not
             discriminate against people based on prejudism.
             Prejudism in the 1930's played a big roll in society and was mainly
             based on race, the beliefs of some people, and staus in the social class.
             Tom Robinson, a harmless man who becomes a victim of racial
             prejudice, in a way is like the "Mocking Bird"in this story. Tom has never
             done wrong to anyone. Even the jurors who sentence him to death have
             nothing personal against him. They find him guilty mostly because they
             feel that to take the word of a black man over two whites would treaten the
             system they live under, the system of segregation. Tom himself is guilty of
             nothing but being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
             Atticus Finch, a well-off, highly respected lawyer with two children(a
             son and daughter), takes a case he knows he will loose, because of his
             beliefs. Even before the Robinson trial began, people were ridiculing the
             Finch family by calling them "nigger-lovers."
             Although Atticus has more than proven Tom Robinson not guilty of raping
             Mayella Ewell, the jury being all white, and in the south, the out come was
             still against Tom and Atticus. The jury members find him guilty to
             maintain the assumed superiority of whites.
             Maycomb county, having class structures is a some what prejudice
             town, the lower class whites were the poorest, and were known as "white
             trash." The Ewells fell into this category because they lived at the dump,
             and relied on welfare for survival. Discriminated by the upper class, the
             Ewells took advantage of blacks, being even lower in status than they are.
             Blacks, being so eager to help, made it easy for Ewells abuse of their
