In most of our lives, there comes a point when the way we perceive things changes unexpectedly, a point when we come to a sudden realization that things aren't always the way we perceive them. Langston Hughes "Salvation" is a story of a young boy who comes to a sudden realization that Jesus will not physically come to save him. Langston style of writing, the way he narrates his own experience and his perception of Jesus made this story very likeable.
             The first reason why if find this story enjoyable is, the distinctiveness in Langston's use of simple words and short sentences in the first few lines of the essay makes the essay very pleasurable. He also writes in the past tense when he mentions that he was "going on thirteen" (29), letting us know that he is now older.
             Another reason would be in the essay "Salvation" Langston Hughes' recounts his own personal experience as a young boy, which puts me in mind of an experience I had in church, some years ago. Just like young Langston Hughes, I sat and waited for Jesus to save me. The story made me
             rekindle those same feelings I had back then. And, all over again, I sat in church just like Langston and watched as everyone around me shouted, prayed and lye in the floor. And, just like Langston I wanted something to happen to me, but it never did. That's when disbelief started to set in, was all this real?
             The final reason why I fond this story enjoyable is because the story illustrates the main reason for Langston's disillusion, which was his Auntie Reed. How she goes on talking for days about the big revival, and just any other kid Hughes listens and believes word-for-word what his aunt tells him: saying that she could hear and feel Jesus in her soul (30).
