The Yellow Wallpaper

             Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an author who has written a remarkable story, "The Yellow Wallpaper." In this story, Gilman discusses how a person is able to go insane only by being locked alone in a room. The slow declining of a person's mental state is very fragile when isolated from society. People today suffer from depression and loneliness all the time. Doctors have many medications to help some of the people who suffer from these types of problems, but these medications do not always work on everyone.
             Depression is really a common theme in Perkins "The Yellow Wallpaper." This woman is married to a man who is a good man and he is a doctor too. Her husband loves her deeply and would do anything to try to help her when she is not doing well. The flaw her husband does have is when his wife tries to talk to him about the suffering she is going through he pretty much dismisses her saying she only needs rest. Depression is not always cured with rest by any means. People need many other means of getting better besides resting. Her husband is unsuccessful in helping his wife get over her severe depression. She begins to lock herself in the room and stare at the wallpaper. She slowly starts seeing faces in the wallpaper. Her depression seems to have come from having children and after having them she began suffering depression. This is common among women and can be dealt with.
             The loneliness his wife begins to have is when she is isolated in the room with no one around. She is probably wondering in the beginning what life is like outside of the wallpapered room, but eventually she becomes so overwhelmed with herself and her isolation she does not wish to leave the room ever. She would rather sit in the room and crawl around the floor keeping near the walls. She rips the wallpaper off the wall to try to help her and to escape. "I lie down ever s
