Time Travel

at Stephen Hawking puts forth and beautifully summarizes with the phrase "Disorder increases with time because we measure time in the direction in which disorder increases." It can therefore be shown that thermodynamics and the human (or any other) mind support each other in this argument.1
Although time does travel in one direction, this does not make it impossible to travel faster than the natural timeline or to go back against time's current. According to Einstein's theory of special relativity, time slows down for objects moving at high velocities. Therefore, if one could move close to or even at the speed of light somehow, they could theoretically travel into the future. This is because not much time would pass for the individual but the rest of time would pass as normal. The amount of energy required to accelerate a body to these velocities would be immense however, and to reach the speed of light is impossible according to Einstein's theory. Even if it were possible, the traveler would be stuck in the future. Another point that can be drawn from this theory is that if someone somehow traveled faster than light, they would go into the past, although traveling this fast is forbidden by Einstein's theory. Assuming one could travel at faster than light (FTL) speeds, travel to the past would work as follows. Imagine an event occurs on one planet and one wishes to relay news of this event to a far off planet. To get to this planet they travel faster than light. Upon reaching the planet, one informs those there of the event in question. Since the traveler was moving faster than light, he reached the planet before the light that showed the event happening on his home planet reached the planet. Therefore, according to the second planet's view, the messenger arrived before the event happened. From the second viewpoint the messenger had traveled back in time from the future.2
