First off the author, Joseph Covino Jr., talks about the cruelty and "Devilish Devices" used on laboratory animals. Many of the animals experience a delayed death because they have been subjected to such prolonged experimentation. Then, he tells about the immorality and unethicalness of vivisection. Those animals should be allowed to have rights and justice just as we humans do. This book helps back up my reason that vivisection is cruel and immoral. He not only gives plenty of answers to why and how vivisection is used but he then backs them up with facts and statistics. The next book I consulted was Inhumane Society The American Way of Exploiting Animals written by Dr. Michael W. Fox reads more on a personal note for the author. He gives many stories of animals being tortured by scientists and some of the stories are his. He was a laboratory animal scientist until his beliefs on cruelty to animals changed and he retired. Having a first hand look at both sides of the argument, should laboratory animals be used for research, has given me an insight as to what is really going on, and what I had perceived was happening. The scientists Fox talks about believe that using the animals will be saving a human life and that is more important than an animal's life. He gives details about questionnaires that have been given to groups of scientists asking them about their moral status on killing the lab animals. He has a wonderful input into the morality of laboratory animal abuse definitely worth listening to.
