             The idea of the GUI was first introduced by Ivan Sutherland circa 1975. He developed an interface called Sketchpad which allowed the creation of graphic images directly on a display screen rather than by entering codes and formulas into the computer through a keyboard

Not only did we have the capacity to store and access information, but now we had a relationship that could be understood more easily by the user.
